The Chamber strongly believes our natural resources must be protected. The Chamber also believes that the rules and regulations that protect the environment need to be common-sense oriented and based on sound science. Environmental policy should be managed in a compatible method that maintains economic growth and protects our precious resources.
Local
The Chamber supports resolution of the dioxin issue through sound science based decision making, and that any remedial action recommended through sound science based decision making be undertaken in a timely manner.
State
The Chamber supports an environmental regulatory process that is based on the best available science, a formal process for new rules and regulations including input from affected stakeholders, and a requirement that there be legislative approval for new regulations.
The Chamber supports land use policy that protects private property rights and allows for the buying, selling and use of property within sensible, legal limits; protects critical land-based industries; and, enhances the overall quality of life.
The Chamber supports a collaborative effort with neighboring states and the federal government to implement a long-term Great Lakes water policy to ensure fair distribution and environmental safeguarding, and protects against diversion of this resource outside the region.
